Arataki (NZ) Rewarewa honey, 500gms

If you like your honey thick, creamy, and with a rich malt flavour, then Arataki's Rewarewa honey should  be on your shopping list.

The Rewarewa tree ( Knightia Excelsa), sometimes known as the New Zealand honeysuckle tree, grows all over NZ's north Island and in the Marlborough Sound region of the south Island.

It can grow up to as much as 30 metres in height and has a distinctive red flower, which appears from October through to December.

The honey has a distinctive reddish brown hue, and rich malty flavour, with an earthy aroma.

Sometimes mistaken for manuka honey, which is similarly thick and coloured, Rewarewa honey is also replete with anti-oxidant properties.

Rewarewa honey is a unique New Zealand product, presented in Arataki's innovative cardboard tubs. Recyclable in most kerbside collection bins, these 500gms tubs feature a cellophane seal under the cardboard lid that ensures the honey stays fresh and good until the seal is removed.

Arataki is, of course, once of New Zealand's best loved honey producers. It has been producing quality honeys since 1944. Arataki has its headquarters ( and a popular tourist centre) at Havelock North, near Hastings on New Zealands north island.
